Tara Kando has been formally decorating and designing residential spaces for over a decade in the New York metropolitan area. As the owner and principal designer, Tara Kando is involved in every detail of the project from conception to execution. Assessing how a client envisions living in their space from a functional and aesthetic point of view informs the design direction of a Tara K. Interiors project. Through a collaborative environment, Tara K. Interiors strives to affect the quality of life one experiences in a well constructed, beautiful, visually interesting yet refined space. It is always the goal to blend the craft and science of design with a client’s life story to create a space that imparts an appropriateness of form and function.
From a young age, art has always been a part of Tara. Whether oil painting, drawing, or just sketching Tara was always creating. She taught herself as a youngster to draw room plans and furniture layouts; however, it wasn’t until her time at Parsons School of Design that those preliminary skills were refined.
Tara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Bryn Mawr College with minors in Italian and Mathematics. Tara focused her studies on Italian Renaissance art which later laid the groundwork for her design sensibility: balance, proportion, and perspective. She also holds a Masters in Arts Administration from Columbia University.
Prior to studying at Parsons and founding Tara K. Interiors in 2007 Tara collaborated with interior designers in her various positions in high end NYC furniture showrooms, art galleries, and at Christie’s Auction House.
